Country Cooking from a Redneck Kitchen

Okay, y’all. This is my kind of cookbook!

When I opened the book, I literally said, “Yes!” The colorful country-spirited photos and simple recipes instantly inspired me. Even the introduction was an interesting read!

The book has 10 recipe categories with fun titles (translations for you city folk):

·      Redneck Whatnots (dips, salads, and finger foods)
·      Yardbird (chicken)
·      Burgers & Bryson BBQ Favorites (picnic table must-haves)
·      Meat, Meat & a Li’l Meat
·      Sunday Suppers
·      Enough to Feed a Crowd
·      Sides, Taters & Maters (things you grow)
·      Sweets & Treats
·      Holiday Baked Goods
·      Breads & Rolls

The first thing I searched for was a recipe for mac & cheese. You can’t have a redneck recipe book without this staple! And wow—only 7 ingredients! (Macaroni, eggs, evaporated milk, butter, salt & pepper, and cheese.) No stove-top, add milk and powdered cheese for me…no, I want the oven baked cheesy goodness, and that’s what this is. Mmm… In about an hour, my mac and cheese was on my plate. And it was delicious.

The recipes are easy to follow and contain everyday ingredients most southerners have in their pantry. The only thing I’d change about this book is I’d have a photograph for every recipe. Most of them have one, but some do not. (The mac & cheese is not illustrated.)

The softbound book has a sturdy, glossy cover, and thick pages that don’t curl easily. Great addition to my cookbook shelf!
