Newton
and Polly is an interesting and unique love story surrounding God’s love and
Newton’s famous hymn, Amazing Grace. I would like to mention that the pacing
wasn’t as steady as some other Jody Hedlund books I’ve read, moving rather
slowly throughout a large portion of the book, but I did enjoy the story as a
whole.
Amazing grace. How sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost, but now am found… ~Amazing Grace
John
and Polly are realistic characters. (Newton
and Polly is based on a true story.) They are not without flaws and aren’t
especially likeable in the beginning (especially John) but they redeem
themselves as the story moves along. The writing is solid and poetic, the redemption
is moving, and the romance is sweet without being overly sappy or cheesy.
I received a complementary book from
BloggingForBooks.
