How refreshing to read a book with a Vietnam War era as the setting. I could count how many times I've read a book during this era on one hand, and I wonder why it isn't written about more often.
I love all things Americana, and this book embraces that. A book centering on family, life, and loss, with a strong nostalgic feel. The characters are believable and it is easy to sympathize with them--especially Annie, the glue of the Jacobson family.
All manner of things started a little slow for me, but the pacing got better and began to put me through all the feels. There is a faith aspect to the story, but I wish it was a little stronger and more evident.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher.
