This is a unique Amish story in that it takes
place during the Civil War. I believe that’s a first for me.
Ruby is easy to sympathize with, and I like
that she isn’t what I think of as the traditional, meek Amish woman. She is
bold and yet faithful, strong and yet tender. I connected with Gideon as well.
He is so burdened, but a good man and caring father. I rooted for them both and
empathized with their grieving.
I love the strong themes of standing by your
convictions, forgiveness, and faith. These characters feel very genuine and have taught me so much about this historical time for the Amish.
I received a complimentary copy of this book
from the publisher.
