What Momma Left Behind

Wow. Talk about the FEELS. This story gives you plenty of them!

Worie is as unique a character as it is a name. And she has a lot to learn.

Life is hard during a Typhoid outbreak. Really hard. And if that isn't enough, her father dies, her mother commits suicide, and her surviving brothers are Justice, an alcoholic, and Calvin, who is greedy and not to be trusted. And that's not all! Young Worie has to take care of those who are orphaned due to the outbreak.

What a timely story to be reading during one of the strangest outbreaks in recent history--Covid-19/Coronavirus. Living through this dangerous and stressful pandemic gives the story extra oomph, and only heightens the myriad of emotions it evokes.

I grew up in Tennessee, so the setting also made this story come to life. But what I enjoyed the most were the themes of trust and forgiveness, and the growth Worie displays.

It is easy to sympathize and empathize with these characters and their stories. It serves as a strong reminder to never take things for granted and to forgive others as well as ourselves.

This is my introduction to Cindy Sproles's writing. She's a gifted storyteller with a strong writer's voice. I look forward to experiencing more of her work. A highly emotional and memorable read.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell.
