The Girl Who Could Breathe Under Water

Whew. This was a hard one to get through. There's a lot packed in this story, and I was surprised greatly. I wish I'd had more of a warning to the dark side of this story, but even so, it's still a powerful read. I'm not so sure that's a good thing though.

I wasn't only surprised by the topics in this story, but in that it's Christian fiction. It doesn't feel or read like much of the Christian fiction I read. Also, I'm a fan of dual time period fiction, but this a little different in that the story is revealed between thoughts and what's happening. It felt disjointed, keeping me from connecting with the characters the way I'd like.

I've no doubt others will enjoy The Girl Who Could Breathe Under Water, but its pretty dark for my taste. (I like the inspiration for the title, though.)
