I hardly ever read middle grade fiction, or stories that involve ghosts. And I never read fantasy. That is until I read The Ghost Writer. This Christian author had a vision when she created these young characters and her strong sense of spirtual faith shines through.
What sets this book apart from many others in the "ghost" or suspense fiction world is that it has a spiritual outlook and is based on Biblical truths. That doesn't mean that readers who aren't Christian won't enjoy it! I dare say they will. They will certainly be entertained, have a few laughs, and might even be inspired.
The world-building is phenominal, descriptions are vivid, and the character development is spot-on. I enjoyed witnessing the growth in friends Lucy and Schuyler, and was inspired by the spiritual themes. Many aspects of this book touched my heart--something I wasn't expecting.
I received a review copy of the first two books in this series.
