I
was very moved by this book. It is atrocious that hearts can harbor so much
hate and intolerance.
Nadia
Murad shares an intimate look into her life, and I must say, much if it is
difficult to read. Her words paint pictures in my head that are hard to erase.
I’m sad for her plight, and those who’ve suffered similar brutalities.
Not
to take away from her story, but I wanted to skim through some of the beginning
of the book. There was a lot of backstory, and I found it hard to stay fixated
to the pages. The middle of the book horrified me. I was deeply moved and my
empathy overflowed. The last third of the book brought some relief, though this
story—and others like it—will haunt me.
This
book is not for the faint of heart. It will likely horrify and scar you. But
her bravery will inspire you.
