First Impressions

I've enjoyed reading Jane Austen books and watching movie adaptations, so I looked forward to reading this modern day retelling of Pride & Prejudice. This is the first book I've read by Debra White Smith.

I enjoyed parts of this book. I easily became acquainted with the characters, and they certainly had their faults. But, some of them were difficult to sympathize with and the believability of a few of the relationships was lacking. (Eddi and Dave didn't seem like a good fit.)

I thought including a Pride and Prejudice play was a fun part of the plot, and the similarities of Elizabeth/Eddi and Dave/Darcy's lives were evident. I was a bit surprised nobody else in the story seemed to notice that though.

Overall, this is a relatively quick read and provided entertainment, but parts of it felt outdated for a 'contemporary' re-telling.

If you enjoy modern-day retellings of old classics, or are a Jane Austen fan, you might enjoy this book. I'm not completely sold yet, but might give another try to the next book in the series.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and was under no obligation to post a review.
